i would like to know if it's much work to run a forum and 2 servers?
and what do you need? (hardware and stuff)
and do you have a lot of time to do other things
like an fulltime job.
im just interested:)

Running the forum depends on how busy it is. It takes me about 6 hours to set one up with basic permissions, skin etc (haven't done one in a while though so would probably take longer). Moderating and generally tweaking it can take between 15 minutes and 15 hours a week (my housemate runs http://tip.it and he spends about 3 hours on there a day, but that's an exceptionally busy site).

If the servers are both CS:S, you can run each off a dual core CPU. You can build a good enough PC for about £300 (350ish euros) excluding electricity and monthly internet connection costs to run at your house, unless you are renting a server out in a farm in which case it's about £60/70 euros a month, roughly.

So no, it's not a full time job unless you are very good and have a massive community. You'll have to ask Doggie nicely and see if he can give you a breakdown of his money/time costs with Dream Evil.

I was making my own server too, but it's very hard to install if you don't excactly know what to do. But suddenly I found this installation pack where I could choose between CSS:DM, ZM, GG, or normal. It was a very easy installation procedure. I recommend it if you don't know how to handle the .cfg files when installing a server.
I stopped because my internet lagged when I was running the server and playing Call of Duty at the same time.. (and the time you have to spend on managing your ****.)

It's really hard to run a big ass community i think, it costs you a lot of time.

No problem, but yeah depending on how big your community is, it can be a massive task and very expensive/time consuming.

He doesn't own tip.it (that's Silverion), but he's like the head technical admin (Pure_MageUK). It's still extremely busy and on its way to becoming a Platinum Jagex fansite.

yeah still it's a cool job, but is it like an job,
does he get money for it or more like an hobby?
and yeah this communety is pritty normal i think,
i know larger forums, but its no small.

You would need a fiber connection (and not ADSL) to the net at first - Then atleast 2GB of RAM to run two lagfree servers (which should restart once a night automatically so it wont eat the memory and make the computer and server(s) slow) and a dual-core processor, 2,4ghz+. These specs are only for best experience of what I have read and tested. I haven't tested to run a server on a low-end computer so this may vary.

For web hosting, you can host a website yourself on the server computer as a web server don't need much processor power and memory at all. It will be a problem though, as you wont have any good control panel to add domains, databases and alot more unless you buy cPanel or DirectAdmin (cPanel is recommended.. but is expensive). You can always use free web hosting services which in most cases offers cPanel or DirectAdmin. I don't recommend 000webhost.com or Byethost as these tends to be slow and/or suspend user accounts randomly for no reason.
